Concrete is poured in half the time
The Boulevard Central Towers foundation slab was poured in five steps. A total of 12,000 cubic meters of concrete were put down, and in only half the time that traditional concrete would have required. "Glenium SKY 504 already proved its qualities in the construction of the Burj Dubai, and now it has allowed us to achieve the required strength on this project; twice as much as was called for in the original specification. The viscosity modifying agent RheoMATRIX 110 ensured that the concrete was easy to produce, even with a lower cementitious content, that it always remained stable, and that there was no need to worry about segregation," reports David Bowerman, Regional Manager Admixture Systems at BASF Construction Chemicals UAE.
Considerable productivity gains
Thanks to the Smart Dynamic Concrete concept, the concrete gains high stability levels and a passing ability suitable for the most confined reinforcements, and can also be compacted without vibration. And what's more, the product ensures the highest levels of strength and durability.
In view of the excellent workability of the product, one person working alone can supervise the concrete as it is being poured. This saves time and significantly increases productivity. The material also optimally seals in the concrete reinforcement, which reduces the risk of externally-induced corrosion – and so also lengthens the structure's service life.
Health and environmental advantages
The environment also benefits, because no mechanical compacting is necessary, dispensing with need to use fossil energy sources. Another important benefit: because there is no noise or vibration from mechanical compacting, this impact on the worker’s health is eliminated.
The mix used had a cement content 35kg/m3 less than the traditional mix used by the ready-mix company. This, coupled with the use of ground granulated blastfurnace slag (GGBS), significantly lowered the carbon footprint of the mix.
